Moriac Community Spring Fete returns
FOLLOWING the success of its inaugural event last year, the Moriac Community Spring Fete is returning to the Surf Coast on October 27.
Organised by Moriac Preschool, Newling Reserve will be filled with live music, food trucks, games, activities and plenty of community run market stalls.
Moriac Preschool director Sarah Henderson said the event is all about putting something together for the community, families and people in the area.
“Moriac doesn’t have very many events or activities so we wanted to try and just make something fun that all the families can look forward to each year and come along.”
Put together by volunteers, all of the fete stalls are run by families of the kinder children.
“We have 69 families here this year, to have 69 families all say they’re willing to help out and to participate, I think that just shows the community spirit,” Ms Henderson said.
The aim of the fete is to create a place where people can come and spend the day and a chance for them to catch up.
“It’s a country community fete, live music, sit on a hay bale, eat some food and enjoy just being part of the community and seeing everyone.”
Ms Henderson said they want people to look at the event as a time to talk to everyone and spend the whole afternoon, sitting down on their picnic rugs and having a good time.
The fete is also a fundraiser for the community run preschool, with the money going towards its upkeep, playground maintenance, supplies and new equipment for the children.
Money will also go towards the preschools planned expansion.
“We are looking to extend the kinder, it’s been out in the Surf Coast at the moment that we’ve had approval to grow and build a second room.
“We are a growing community here at the moment, so any fundraising will help go toward that extension and growth of the preschool.”
The Moriac Community Spring Fete will run from 11am until 3pm.
