Moriac school gets half a mil to finish upgrade

THE state government has tipped another half a million dollars into Moriac Primary School to finish the second and third stages of its upgrade.

Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney visited the school last week to announce the $500,000 in funding.

The money comes on top of $3.15 million provided by Labor to upgrade Moriac Primary School, including construction of two new learning blocks with seven classrooms, new multi-purpose learning spaces, and a renovation of admin and support areas.

Stage 1 of the upgrade has already been completed, including a new junior school block with three classrooms and a multi-purpose space.

Work is under way on stages 2 and 3 of the upgrade, including construction of a new middle school block with four classrooms, a new multi-purpose space and upgrades to the school admin and support facilities.

The upgrade to admin spaces will include new staff offices, a counselling room, a disabled toilet and first aid facilities.

James Deans & Associates Architects designed the upgrade, with Lyons Construction building it.

“This is a great outcome for the community. With this funding boost Moriac Primary School will be able to deliver their plans in full,” Ms Tierney said.

“I know how important this project is to the Moriac community – I’m delighted that we’ve been able to work in partnership every step of the way to make it a reality.”

Labor says there are now 64 new government schools in the construction pipeline following more than $2.8 billion in investment in new schools and school upgrades around the state.
