A SHELVED plan for a new mural in Anglesea’s shopping precinct is back on the cards with a fashion show being held early next month to help finance the project.

Anglesea Baptist Church and its Seaside Seconds Op Shop have joined with community businesses in raising funds for painting a large “The Spirit of Anglesea” interactive mural on the op shop’s store front, created by local artist Minerva Lamorgese.

To make the project possible, the op shop will host a Community Fundraising Fashion Parade at the Anglesea Memorial Hall on Sunday, November 3 with all clothes part of the parade going up for sale in addition to $2,500 worth of raffle prizes up for grabs.

Former television presenter Ann-Maree Biggar will be MC for the event.

Parade co-organiser and op shop volunteer Julie Knight said the original plan for the mural was conjured up before the COVID-19 pandemic and is intended to increase foot traffic at the shops year-round, encouraging residents and visitors to view the mural and consider spending money at local businesses.

“We conducted a community survey at the time and the feedback we got in return involved keeping the natural landscape in some form,” Ms Knight said.

“Minerva then reached out wanting to give back to the community and created the sketches for the mural, which we loved.

“We’re really excited for how this is all coming together, and we’ve had nothing but support from 17 other local businesses.”

The mural pictures a scenic view of Point Roadknight with various species of animals featured throughout, ranging from kangaroos to native birds, with all information accessible to passers-by through QR code.

Op shop manager Bec Goodman said Seaside Seconds has a wide range of top quality clothes, which will be part of next month’s event.

“We have an abundance of awesome stuff here, and I thought why not show it all off,” Ms Goodman said.

“The amount of new stuff we get, we’re so lucky, people love this op shop and come here all the time, but we really want to showcase just how great our stuff is at the parade.

“People want to see this mural become a reality and want to see businesses continue excel.”

Tickets to the fashion parade are $25, or a group of five for $100, and the parade will run from 2.30pm to 5pm.
