Neighbourhood Watch’s key strategies are to keep residents informed and to increase awareness and knowledge about community safety.

LOCAL POLICE NEWS

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH REPORT JUNE – AUGUST 2018

The winter months have seen a continuation of very low criminal activity in the Torquay area.

Statistics for the three months of June, July and August show ONLY ELEVEN reported criminal offences.

These include five property damage offences, four theft offences and two burglaries. Even allowing for the usual drop in offences which accompany the cold weather, this is an excellent result for the Torquay community.

With the warmer months approaching we rely on the community to continue to support local police by reporting any suspicious behaviour to 000 so we can keep our crime to a minimum.

Also, a reminder that our ‘COFFEE WITH A COP’ morning will be held at the Torquay Bowls Club on Tuesday October 9 from 10.30 am. This is a chance to meet local police and enjoy a complimentary coffee whilst discussing any issues concerning our local community.

NHW/BUNNINGS “SAFE PLATE DAY” – Melbourne Cup Weekend

A safe plate day will be held on Saturday November 3 in the Bunnings Car Park Torquay from 10am until 1pm, with SES and CFA volunteers in attendance to fit anti-theft screws to your vehicle’s number plates.

This procedure is to stop opportunistic thieves from stealing your plates which helps the thieves commit other crime related activities.

Number plates are stolen daily and weekly totals average 20. Yours could be next! “Spot prizes” donated by Bunnings Store. Plates replaced for a gold coin donation. Barbecue from 9am until 4pm.

CLUB ARMSTRONG “SAFE PLATE DAY” – Saturday October 6

This planned event is being organised by the Villawood Committee from 10am until 1pm on the above date.

Open to all and will be held in the forecourt of Club Armstrong on Unity Drive.

The groups supporting this event are SES South Barwon, Men’s Club Grovedale and South Barwon MP Andrew Katos.

The aim of this exercise is also to promote the formation of a NHW Group for this these new suburban developments. This initiative could be the fore-runner to the establishment of a new NHW Group in the Armstrong Creek area.
