THE largest exhibition and competition in the Geelong region for artists with disability or a history of mental illness has a new award category.

GenU is anticipating record entries for its annual artX Regional exhibition, and chief executive officer Clare Amies said the new award’s purpose is to highlight how one artist had progressed.

“Our High Achievement Award will recognise an aspiring artist for their significant commitment across a 12-to-18-month journey, and how their creativity has evolved along the way,” she said.

The free exhibition will run from April 2 to April 24 in the Rachinger Gallery at the genU Eastern Hub Community Centre.

Artists are allowed to submit up to three works.

“There will be a vibrant and diverse range of artwork for sale, as we anticipate at least 150 entries this year, so there will be something to suit everyone’s style,” Ms Amies said.

“Having an artX original in your office or home will enrich any space, create a positive talking point, and you’ll be supporting artists financially and creatively.”

Submissions are open now and will close on March 21. Artists from the greater Geelong region, central Victoria, the Western District and the Mornington region are eligible to enter. Winners will announced at the official opening on Thursday, April 3, at the community centre from 5pm to 6.30pm.
