THE Surf Coast Shire has produced a new contacts directory to help over 55s in the municipality get more involved in the community.

Included in the Get Involved booklet are links to more than 100 clubs, groups, activities and services.

The booklet aims to encourage people to make connections and increase participation in community life, urging residents to live a more active and inclusive lifestyle.

Cr Tony Phelps said the guide effectively opens the doors to groups, activities and services available in the shire, aiming to build social connections and promote health and wellbeing.

“Council produced its first Get Involved booklet in 2021, so we are delighted to be sharing this updated edition.

“We encourage older adults to pick up the booklet from one of our many distribution points, or to check the directory out online, find some inspiration and make new connections.”

The guide is split into different categories and sections, related to different interests including environment, lifelong learning, sharing sheds, Neighbourhood Houses, Religious organisations and more.

Also included is some general information on each group or activity, along with contact details and website links.

“The guide includes contacts and locations for more than 80 community-based clubs, groups and activities, and more than 20 services and agencies providing support in areas including food relief, housing and accommodation financial hardship, and mental health and drug and alcohol services,” Cr Phelps said.

Online and hard copies of the booklet are available in August, with the official launch taking place in October during Positive Ageing Month.
