Mr Yapp was sworn into his new position at the club’s annual changeover meeting late last month.
He takes on the presidency from immediate past president Colin Bellis who has served as president for two terms.
Mr Yapp said he looked forward to a successful 2025-26 campaign.
“We are very grateful for the support of so many in our community – businesses and individuals,” he said.
“We hope we will add new ways to serve with purpose, engaging our Lions community and also our broader community.
“We hope we will continue to identify contemporary needs and how we can lead others to meet them.
“We will not do that alone; but in looking broadly, we may find some new members to join in our service.”
Torquay Lions changed many lives throughout the 2024-25 year, distributing over $80,000 to the local community.
The main fundraising activities included the Cowrie Market barbecue and train, Bunnings, the Billy Ryan Charity Bowls Day, and pub and caravan park raffles.
More than $35,000 went towards the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal, while the Torquay SES Unit was the beneficiary of the bowls charity day, with $12,000 donated.
The Ridgeline Trail also received significant funding to the tune of $10,000.
The club’s partnership with Feed Me Surf Coast also continued to be strong, with Lions volunteers helping to provide and coordinate deliveries of food to those who need it.
Lions also helped some individuals with their gardening and basic maintenance, and did regular work at the Bellbrae Cemetery, ensuring it remains a tranquil and cared- for environment.
The Lions club’s signature Peace Poster competition, and Youth of the Year quest was also successful in 2024-25.
Outgoing president Colin Bellis said he was proud of the club’s efforts.
“Lions are highly respected within our community because of our service provided directly as well as through funding support.”
