New owner takes on Torquay tyre business

August 23, 2023 BY

Steve Borch, Josh Stewart and Tony Boros are the experienced team at Torquay Tyre & Mechanica.

A WELL-KNOWN Torquay auto business has had a recent change of ownership.

Chris Andrews has taken over Torquay Tyre & Mechanical from Geoff Cole, who started and ran it for close to a decade.

Chris has more than two decades’ experience in the automotive industry, most recently starting what is now one of Australia’s largest independent tyre wholesale businesses with a good mate and business partner.

He briefly retired in 2021 but said a conversation with Geoff charted the next step of his career.

“I was looking to do something and I wasn’t sure what to do, and I’d known Geoff for close to 25 years – we had lunch and a couple of beers one day, and at the end of it, he’d retired and I’d bought the business.”

Torquay Tyre & Mechanical has a combined 85 years’ experience, and the team pride themselves in offering reliable high-quality service with competitive pricing.

It offers premium quality tyres as well as tyre rotations and balancing, wheel alignments and puncture repairs.

Two highly qualified mechanics also provide a variety of mechanical services including car servicing, battery replacement and mechanical repairs.

The team of mechanics and tyre fitters have been here for years and are well known within the community, and are an integral part of the business and its success.

“Courtney, my daughter, worked with me at my previous business and she’s going to come on board too, and so it’s going to be a hands-on, family-run business,” Chris said.

“It’s really important for what Geoff started here close to 10 years ago, and the reputation the business has, to be totally unchanged – same business, same people, just new owners.”

Torquay Tyre & Mechanical has installed a comfortable waiting area in its shopfront, so customers can have their tyres fitted while they wait.

The business is a proud sponsor of the Torquay Tigers Football Club as well as cricket and netball clubs and sponsor many other community clubs in the Torquay area.

Chris said Torquay Tyre & Mechanical would look to expand its footprint while continuing to serve its existing loyal customer base.

“The work Geoff did is integral and the staff he’s got here are integral – the repeat business is huge, and that’s something that we don’t take for granted, and we’ll continue to do everything that’s right to keep that going.”

Torquay Tyre & Mechanical is at 24 Baines Crescent, Torquay. Phone 5264 7334 or head to torquaytyreandmechanical.com.au
