ANAM Cara Geelong has partnered with the Australian Government’s Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA), expanding palliative care services to support veterans.

Through the partnership eligible veterans who hold Gold or White cards will be able to access specialised inpatient palliative care.

Anan Cara’s facility at Waurn Ponds’ Deakin University offers 24/7 admissions, combining medical excellence with holistic, person-centred care in a serene environment.

Veterans can be assured their needs will be met with dignity and individualised support with short-term overnight care for symptom management and end-of-life care available.

“As we approach Remembrance Day, we are reminded of the importance of supporting those who have served our country,” Anam Cara chief executive officer Vanessa McColl said.

“We are privileged to offer our veterans in Geelong and surrounding areas a place where they can find personalised, compassionate care upholding their dignity and autonomy.

“Our partnership with the DVA reflects our commitment to honour each veteran’s journey.

Ms McColl said providing individualised care means they were able to address each patients’ unique needs while creating a supportive and respectful environment.

“We look forward to collaborating closely with local veterans’ organisations to ensure each person feels valued and cared for during their time with us.”

Anam Cara aims to set a new standard for comprehensive, respectful and dignified palliative care for veterans on its mission to serve the needs of all members of the community with empathy and excellence.

Lara RSL president Marcus McEwen said it’s exciting all veterans can now get access to the palliative care facility, fully funded by the DVA.

“Our veterans have all done their part in serving our country, so for DVA to recognise this in such a unique way is very special and greatly appreciated by the entire veteran community.”
