NEW renders for the Point Grey precinct in Lorne have been released, showing the proposed looks for the Co-Op building and Lorne Aquatic and Angling Club (LAAC).

The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) has been working with the Committee for Lorne, Lorne Historical Society and Friends of Lorne to refine designs for the long-awaited redevelopment, which is expected to start construction in February.

In the renders, the Co-Op building includes a new hospitality offering and an accessible public toilet within the footprint of the 1949 original structure.

The new LAAC building will features an outdoor area and a public fish cleaning station.

It reflects the original Co-Op in its size, shape and roofline, and elements such as old bricks and metal work will be reused wherever possible.

The hospitality space has increased in size from initial concept plans.

GORCAPA is working with the Lorne Historical Society to incorporate display spaces for the society’s use.

The new LAAC building features an outdoor area perfect for sunny afternoons, and a public fish cleaning station.

Improvements in the public spaces include new open spaces, walkways, seating and improved traffic flow and parking.

GORCAPA has also begun work on an art and history strategy for the precinct.

“Designs are coming together very nicely for Point Grey,” a GORCAPA spokesperson said.

“Community feedback is helping to refine the new buildings and really shape how the site’s rich history is shared.

“This is going to be a fantastic project for Lorne and we’re very excited to be delivering it, with major works to kick off in February next year.”
