NEW wayfinding signs have been rolled out across Torquay with the aim of improving the area’s walkability, enhancing the visitor experience and supporting local retailers.

The signage provides clearer information about local attractions, facilities and natural features, and is intended to strengthen links between the town’s key precincts, beaches and surrounding cultural and environmental sites.

The $370,000 project was jointly funded by the Victorian government and the Surf Coast Shire, with the state contributing $175,000 through its Growing Suburbs Fund and $20,000 via the Regional Infrastructure Fund.

Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney joined Surf Coast Shire mayor, Libby Stapleton, in Torquay last week to mark the completion of the project.

“Locals know Torquay is a special place beyond the surf and swells, and this project is about highlighting that – to communities and visitors alike,” Ms Tierney said.

“These upgrades are another example of how the Growing Suburbs Fund has been supporting unique places across Victoria to thrive and be even more enjoyable.”

The shire has received more than $4 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund since 2020. This funding has supported three projects worth more than $10 million.

Since 2015, the fund has backed 370 projects statewide, representing $1.3 billion in investment and an estimated 11,300 jobs.
