A NEW connecting path has opened between the inland Torquay Golf Course and the Surf Coast Walk.

The new link ensures continuous beach access to the eastern end of Jan Juc Beach as coastal erosion concerns rise in the area.

Recent geotechnical assessments show 1.5 metres of coastal cliffs between Jan Juc Surf Lifesaving Club and Rocky Point at Torquay could fall over the next 20 years.

The new access area will mean locals and visitors can still access stunning ocean views even while sections of the main trail face closures in the imminent future.

The existing coastal trail remains open, with safety barriers in place.

Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority staff will continue to monitor the area to ensure user safety.
