New traffic lights operational at Surf Coast intersection
THE Surf Coast Shire has switched on the new traffic lights at the intersection of Surf Coast Highway, Rosser Boulevard, and Coombes Road.
The completion of the intersection on Monday means there is now full access to Coombes Road and Rosser Boulevard, after a long period of closure.
Powercor fast-tracked the commissioning of the traffic lights, which the shire says will enhance navigation and safety for drivers at this busy junction.
“Powercor turned on the lights at the intersection just nine business days after the council’s contractor submitted all the required safety documentation,” Powercor spokesperson Jordan Oliver said.
“Normally, distributors have 50 business days to complete their work.”
Road user and long-time resident Chris Lewis said he was happy to see the traffic lights working in time for the Easter break.
“I’m also delighted that the Surf Coast Shire was able to negotiate with other parties to bring forward the timeline, which initially seemed to be extreme.”
As the new system comes into operation, the Surf Coast Shire are advising drivers to remain cautious and patient while adjusting to the intersection’s updated layout.
