SPRING Creek Oval is entering the final stretch of a major reconstruction, with fresh turf laid last week.
The project, which began in October, aims to deliver a safer and more resilient playing surface at the ground, which has reached the end of its useful life.
The upgrade has included new turf and subsurface works, along with improvements to drainage, irrigation and fencing at the site,
Works are expected to be finished in March, ahead of the coming football season.
Surf Coast Shire councillor Liz Pattison said the project would deliver lasting benefits for local sporting club and the wider community.
“This upgrade will deliver a high-quality, fit-for-purpose playing surface that can be used year-round and enjoyed by the whole community,” she said.
“With turf now in place, we are asking the community to stay off the grass during this important establishment period. The oval will remain closed until it is ready to use.”
Cr Pattison acknowledged the disruption caused by the oval’s closure and thanked local clubs and users for their co-operation.
“We know the closure has required flexibility from local clubs and users, and we sincerely thank them for their understanding and support,” she said.
“I’d especially like to thank the Torquay Cricket Club for relocating their matches for the 2025/2026 season to allow the reconstruction to go ahead.”
