Next-day Amazon delivery launched in Geelong
THE Australian arm of global e-commerce company Amazon has extended its Prime Free One-Day Delivery service to Geelong and surrounds.
The next-day service became available to most local Prime members as of Wednesday this week for orders lodged as late as midnight, on more than one million eligible items with no minimum spend.
Amazon’s delivery station in North Geelong – located at the site of the former Ford factory – has the capacity to process up to 6,000 packages daily, which can be delivered across Geelong and to surrounding suburbs and towns such as Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads and Torquay.
“This has been made possible with the investment Amazon has put into Australia, and it’s a really fantastic service,” Geelong site operations manager Nigel Tauro said.
“There’s more than a million products across 30 different categories that Prime customers can order and get delivered next day – household, electronics, pantry staples and lots more.”.
He said the Geelong delivery station conducted a couple of test runs before the official launch, so some local Amazon customers may have already received their orders within 24 hours.
Newtown-based business Zena Sport stocks its products with Amazon, and owner Donna Johnson welcomed the extension of Prime Free One-Day Delivery to Geelong.
“We’ve been involved with Amazon for just under 12 months, and it’s been amazing.
“With the Prime Free One-Day Delivery, it’s amazing for our customers, because we get a lot of requests a few days out from the weekend – women wanting to order a protective vest and wanting it for that weekend – so to be able to receive that the next day is huge.”
The Geelong site is Amazon’s 12th logistics site in Australia and third in Victoria, and opened in late September last year.
