Dive into Nippers with Jan Juc SLSC this weekend
THE Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club is holding a “Come ‘n’ Try” day this Saturday October 19 for those interested in partaking in the Nippers program.
The club has Nippers programs for different age groups from seven through to 14.
Jan Juc SLSC Nippers manager Kate Walsh said she was encouraged by the growth the club had seen in their nippers program.
“We usually have about 200-250 nippers involved throughout the season.
“It’s starting to grow more and more and as the new clubhouse is meant to be open this season we’ll be getting more numbers as well.”
The club has both a season-long program and a summer holiday program, with participants welcome to participate in one or both.
The season-long program runs through to the Victorian Junior Lifesaving Championships held on 7-9 March 2020 in Warrnambool.
In this program, participants have weekly sessions where they will receive coaching and participate in races.
The summer holiday program sees eight sessions spread across two weeks. This program begins on December 27.
This program focuses on basic first aid, beach hazard awareness and introducing participants to surf sport activities.
To be eligible to participate in the Nippers program, children must show basic swimming skills reflective of their age.
