No crowd for Geelong Cup
Crowds will not be permitted at the 2021 Geelong Cup – Geelong’s biggest race day – due to the current state government COVID-19 roadmap.
The Geelong Racing Club says it’s “extremely disappointed” that the huge community event, supported by GRC members, sponsors and racing enthusiasts, the business community of Geelong, horse owners and trainers from around the world, will go ahead without spectators.
GRC has announced today that “due to the current state government roadmap which indicates crowds from November 5 onwards, along with the Geelong LGA not being included in one of the six municipalities for trial events”, the 2021 bet365 Geelong Cup will be crowd-free.
“We have exhausted every avenue in the hope of getting people to the track, but unfortunately the time has come where a definitive decision was required,” GRC chief Luke Rayner said.
From today, the Geelong Racing Club will be refunding customers who have purchased dining and general admission tickets.
The Geelong Racing Club is committed to engaging our owners, members, and sponsors in the race through digital platforms and will welcome back crowds, when permitted.
