Nominations open for Youth Council
YOUNG people across the Geelong region have the chance to instigate change within their communities, with nominations now open for the 2021 Greater Geelong Youth Council.
The Youth Council is open to people aged between 12-17.
Youth Councillors meet monthly to give a voice to the region’s youth and help inform the City of Greater Geelong council on different issues.
The 2020 Youth Council identified its key priorities to be mental health, environment and sustainability, and safe and accessible communities.
Junior Mayor Farzana Hussaini said being on the Youth Council was a valuable opportunity to serve the community.
“Looking back at the achievements of Youth Council this year, I’m really pleased with the work we have achieved, and the progress made,” Ms Hussaini said.
“I strongly encourage any young people in Greater Geelong to consider nominating for Youth Council to make a difference in the community.”
The city’s community life acting director Leigh McCallum said 2021 would be a particularly important year for the Youth Council.
“As we look to our recovery of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s important we have a youth voice informing council on important issues impacting young people.”
Three youth representatives are selected from each of the four wards.
Nominations will be open until Sunday, November 15.
