AN ANGLESEA based landscaping business has secured its biggest ever haul at the Victorian Landscape Industry Awards, winning two gold medals, three silvers and a bronze medallion.

Ocean Road Landscaping was victorious in the Landscape Designs Over 400m2 and Sustainable Landscape divisions, received silver for Landscape Design 100m2-400m2, Feature in the Landscape, and Residential Construction ($75-150k) and a bronze for Residential Landscape construction (up to $75k).

The Victorian Landscape Industry Awards were hosted in Melbourne last month, celebrating the outstanding achievements and efforts of the state’s best landscape businesses.

Ocean Road Landscaping creative director and owner, Peter Shaw said he was over the moon to win the plethora of titles after an extended break from not entering the awards.

“We were obviously very excited for our 25 staff members who have put in plenty of hard work to get us to this point.

“We’ve been members of Landscaping Victoria for over 25 years; however, we don’t usually do too much with them because we are hidden down here on the coast.

“Over the years, we haven’t really put in for awards, but this year just felt right.

“The sustainability category was a real hotly contested one and we had to beat out a multi-million-dollar housing estate for the title.

“The judges thought our smaller project, which harvested water from tennis courts, a roof and from a driveway and back on to the garden, was well regarded.

“We were up against some pretty big businesses and clients, so for our size and location, we were pretty proud to have a big say in the event.”

The Anglesea landscaping business secured six different awards and a membership appreciation certificate.

Mr Shaw said the community and its local clients continue to be integral to their success.

“We’ve been about for 28 years now, and we continue to be humbled by the support we get from our local community.

“We’ve gotten to a great level now, and we continue to grow.

“We love to make our gardens belong and connect to where they are. Our work is typically softer, based on plants rather than hard landscaping works.

“It really is domestic work, and we love working for people who value what we do and recognise our values of not trying to fight the environment.”

Ocean Road Landscaping will be hosting two open gardens in Anglesea with Open Gardens Victoria in January 2024, with all funds going to charity.
