ONEWAVE, a non-profit surf community, has partnered again with the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach to raise awareness of mental health through saltwater therapy.

Since its inception in Bondi in 2013, OneWave has organized Fluro Friday events at more than 200 beaches in more than 50 countries.

These events aim to raise awareness about mental health, reduce stigma, and help people “free the funk”.

In addition to the beach events, OneWave also runs ‘Free the Funk’ programs in schools and workplaces, impacting more than 45,000 people.

During last year’s competition, surfing legends Occy and Tom Curren donated their boards to OneWave, and the auction of these boards raised $33,500.

This funding supported the delivery of 33 OneWave school programs.

OneWave founder Grant Trebilco expressed his enthusiasm about the continuing partnership.

“OneWave is stoked to continue our partnership with the World Surf League and Hydralyte to bring more colour to mental health at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach,” he said.

This year, the aim is to deliver 12 ‘Free the Funk’ programs at local schools, providing 2,500 students with mental health tips and tools they can use throughout their lives.

There are still a few spots available for free school programs along the Surf Coast from March 25 to 28 March.

Additionally, Trebilco invites everyone to a special Fluro Friday event at Torquay Beach on Good Friday, March 29 at 7am, in collaboration with the World Surf League and Hydralyte.

“Dress in your brightest surf outfit and join us for a Fluro surf or swim to help bring more colour and awareness to mental health,” Mr Trebilco said.
