VICTORIA Police will ramp up their presence to try to improve safety in and around the Surf Coast over the holiday season.

Operation Summersafe will see additional police officers patrolling Geelong, the Bellarine, and the Surf Coast.

Superintendent Craig Gillard said one of the focuses of the additional staff would be to help road safety concerns.

“We’ll be addressing any public order incidents, while we will also have a highly visible road policing presence to get everyone home safely from the beach and minimise the chance of accidents on our roads.

“Additional resourcing over this busy period will also allow police to respond to unplanned incidents or events.”

The increased police force will remain until the end of January.

Mr Gillard said he wanted everyone to have fun while staying safe.

“We’re not against people having a good time, but we’ll be doing everything we can to stop anyone committing crime and preventing others from enjoying this holiday season.”

Operation Summersafe is also running in various suburbs of Melbourne as well as the Mornington Peninsula.
