LOCAL surf school and adventure tour operator Go Ride a Wave is launching an exciting new product to celebrate the winter solstice.

The company’s inaugural twilight kayaking sessions will launch tomorrow (Saturday, June 21) on the shortest day of the year.

The guided tours will take place on the Anglesea River and include sightseeing, native wildlife spotting and stargazing.

The peaceful bends of the river will provide participants with ample opportunity to lap up the beauty of the river ecosystem by day and night.

Go Ride a Wave owner Ben Niblett said the initiative aimed to showcase the Great Ocean Road as a year-round destination all the while offering adventurous travellers and locals an incredible twilight experience.

“There’s been a lot of discussion within Great Ocean Road tourism about how quiet winter is and that we need some winter only product.

The guided tours will provide participants with ample opportunity to spot wildlife and stargaze.

“It’s getting dark really early, and we just think it’s a really great idea to get people to stay overnight on the Great Ocean Road.

“The Anglesea River is so unique… it’s really protected and really safe, so much so you can paddle it in the night with no real risk of currents or things coming down stream. We are super lucky to have it.

“It’ll just be a great wildlife spotting opportunity and super cool to be out kayaking during the night.”

The program will be run seven days a week through to the September school holidays from 5.30pm to 7pm.

It will be available for groups including schools, corporate groups, birthday parties and community groups.

All gear will be provided including double kayaks with lights, paddle, PFD vest, head torch, wetsuit and wetsuit booties and hot drinks/soup/snacks.

Bookings can be made via the Go Ride a Ride website or by calling 5263 2111.
