A LARGE group of school parents made a huge leap last week to celebrate their youngest children starting primary education.

The 30 parents marked the monumental occasion by jumping off Bird Rock in Jan Juc.

The idea of the jump is to get parents out of their comfort zone, similar to the feelings children would have on their first day of prep.

The big leap symbolised the parents celebrating their child’s big leap into primary education.

The Bird Rock jump was done to mirror pier jumps and rock jumps completed in Queenscliff and Barwon Heads by local school parents.

Bellbrae Primary School parents Ana Cole and Cat Taylor said when they saw the fun people were having on the Bellarine, they had to make something of their own.

“We saw how fun it looked and had to jump straight in to celebrate this huge occasion,” Ms Cole said.

The jump is to get parents out of their comfort zone, similar to the feelings a child would have on their first day of school.

“It was super-exciting to have everyone together to celebrate their last child kicking off their education.”

“Bird Rock is pretty high and scary. It’s something I hadn’t done since I was 14,” Ms Taylor added.

“It was pretty exhilarating get up there, and we made it!”

Parents enjoyed a brunch and nibbles on the beach in the sunshine after the jump, while others went out and had a surf.
