Parks Vic kids program

September 26, 2019 BY

PARKS Victoria is inviting children and their families to join in a range of fun and educational outdoor activities for the upcoming school holidays.

These include a range of activities hosted by rangers that encourage children aged six to 12 to get outdoors and learn more about Victoria’s environment and cultural heritage.

These events will be held across the state, but even if you are unable to make it to them Parks Victoria has organised a Spring Bioblitz on October 3 and 4.

A Bioblitz is a self-guided event where participants simply head to a local park or nature reserve and take some photos of the plants and wildlife with their camera or smartphone.

They then upload the photos to www.inaturalist.org where they act as important information for scientists looking for data on certain regions and species.

Parks Victoria education and interpretation officer James Adams says these types of activities are fantastic for getting kids and adults to explore nature.

“The Spring Bioblitz is all about fostering kids’ natural enthusiasm for discovery by providing a fun, hands-on opportunity to contribute to nature conservation.

“The data collected will be used by Parks Victoria’s science team to better understand the amazing diversity of life within our parks which will help us protect it.”

All the activities being run by Parks Victoria are free, but bookings are necessary and a parent or guardian must always accompany the child.

To book or find more information, head to juniorrangers.com.au.

Parks Victoria can also be called on 13 1963 for more information.
