Parks Victoria seeks seasonal rangers

APPLICATIONS are now open for a record 100 Seasonal Park Rangers jobs, following a $2.8 million state government investment.

The funding will triple the number of seasonal rangers previously employed over the summer period, providing a boost for local employment and economies, regional tourism and park management.

The new jobs will be based across Victoria, with 28 positions in the state’s west at Macedon Regional Park, Grampians National Park, Great Otway National Park, Port Campbell National Park, Lower Glenelg National Park, Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve and You Yangs Regional Park.

Park Rangers perform a critical role in protecting 4.1 million hectares of land and around 70 per cent of the state’s coastline.

Seasonal rangers will provide support during the busiest months of the year on tasks including visitor services and conservation programs.

People from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply, with the key requirements being a passion for people and a love of the outdoors.

Western Victoria area Chief Ranger Siobhan Rogan said every day was different for a Park Ranger.

“You’ll build and maintain tracks, trails and camping areas; help keep our visitors safe; protect the environment from weeds and feral animals; and importantly, welcome and share stories with visitors.

“I encourage people in western Victoria who love their local parks and reserves to consider applying.”

The new roles will be a mix of weekday and weekend positions, running for either three months between December 2018 and February 2019, or six months between November 2018 and April 2019.
