Passionate cyclists prepare to tackle summer circuit

THERE’S no better way to start your Summer of Cycling campaign than with a ride around Torquay in the heart of summer.

The team at Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race (CEGORR) and Visit Victoria created the Summer of Cycling to provide passionate cyclists around the region with riding opportunities following the cancellation of the CEGORR, which would normally take place in late January.

Touring Torquay is a 13.3 kilometre course along the TAC Race Torquay circuit which will provide cyclists with a great challenge and coastal views.

The course starts on The Esplanade and follows along Bell Street in a clockwise direction before hitting the Great Ocean Road, Duffields and Messmate roads and then features two short climbs before turning for home via South Beach Road and a quick descent on Horseshoe Bend Road before finishing on The Esplanade.

Cyclists can do as many laps of this circuit as they please and can test themselves against the best with the Elite Men’s race doing 10 laps while the Elite Women complete eight.

The CEGORR is also providing an opportunity to ask Cadel Evans a question or two on the 10-year anniversary of his winning Tour de France campaign. People can submit their questions on the CEGORR website and Evans will answer questions later in the month via social media.

There are also a number of competitions on offer with a chance to win a $100 gift voucher for Santini gear or to go into the draw for BikeSportz prizes.

The Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Summer of Cycling campaign will run until February 14.
