Patrol tower officially open

January 2, 2019 BY

THE Ocean Grove Surf Lifesaving Club celebrated the official opening of its patrol tower with the community at the weekend.

Emergency Management Commissioner Andrew Crisp, Surf Life Saving Victoria chief executive officer Nigel Taylor, Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville and Corangamite federal member Sarah Henderson were also on hand to mark the milestone on Saturday.

The patrol tower, which offers a 180-degree view of the beach and houses vital communications used in emergency management, is phase one of the club’s new multi-million-dollar Ocean Grove Surf Beach Complex.

The patrol tower enables lifesavers and lifeguards to monitor the beach and conditions from an excellent vantage point.

“So far, our Surf Life Saving Patrols are loving the new patrol tower and can’t wait to see the rest of their new surf club come to fruition,” club spokesperson Simone White said.

The Patrol Tower Open Day took place at the conclusion of the RT Edgar Rip to River Fun Run event, which attracted about 1,000 people (see page 33). For more information, visit the website at oceangroveslsc.asn.au.
