Performance to recall Geelong’s colonial era

A FREE and interactive live performance this weekend will transport the audience back in time to Geelong in the mid-19th century.

The Arts Industry Commission will present the Geelong 1850s Outdoor Performance in Johnstone Park, recreating four scenes within the park space – Corio Bay, The Bush Inn, Western Gully and Gaol.

MURRI:YUL Consultants Heather Threadgold and Traditional Owner Melinda Kennedy will be joined by Traditional Owner and renowned performer Barry Gilson as they present historical Geelong, weaving Wadawurrung contexts with true tales of grit, living in squalor, bushranger exploits and other, little-known historical facts about Geelong in the 1850s.

Talented local actors and storytellers join in to help contribute to the atmosphere of a Geelong of days past.

“Threading Gold Walking Tours has taken almost 3,000 locals through the streets and laneways of Geelong 1850s and the response is clear that the histories of Geelong are rich and diverse and exciting,” Threading Gold Walking Tours’ Heather Threadgold said.

The Geelong 1850s Outdoor Performance will be presented at Johnstone Park, Geelong on Saturday, April 10 from 4.30pm.
