Petition calls for more beauty in Moriac

December 5, 2019 BY

THE Surf Coast Shire has accepted a petition for funding for the “beautification” of Moriac.

The petition, tabled at the at the November 26 council meeting, had more than 100 signatures, and asked that Moriac receive funds to “beautify and improve” the town.

It argues that Moriac’s growth justifies an increase in resources dedicated to the township.

“Moriac is growing and changing and many visitors enter the shire through the township and it is often used as the return trip from the Great Ocean Road.

“We need improved facilities to ensure Moriac remains an attractive and functional place for locals and visitors to enjoy.”

Ideas for Moriac’s beautification that came from a workshop in late October include rumble strips near the town’s entrances, improved bus stops and intersections, pedestrian crossings, and improvement of the Lions Park and Moriac Hall.

The petition will now be referred to the to the general manager of community and culture for their consideration.

A report on the petition will be presented to council at the December 10 council meeting.
