Photo competition showcases Surf Coast’s beauty
THE winners of the Surf Coast Summer Photo Competition have been announced.
Lucas Pardo, Phil Roache and Andy Russell had their photos selected by Surf Coast Shire council mayor Rose Hodge as the best of about 250 submissions.
Last week, Cr Hodge said the overall quality of entries was exceptional.
“It was a difficult choice, but I was so impressed how many varied and beautiful images of the Surf Coast Shire there was.”
Mr Pardo said the region’s beauty had inspired much of his photography.
“I moved to Australia from El Salvador 33 years ago and from the moment I discovered the Surf Coast Shire, my hard drive has been full.
“Seeing the bushfire devastation and how vulnerable these forests are only making my photography feel more special – I want to remind people how beautiful it is here.”
Mr Pardo suggested that aspiring photographers head to Point Addis at Sundet for a great photo opportunity.
Fellow winner Mr Roache took his photo there and also emphasised the importance of the location.
“Point Addis is a great surfing location and needs protection and help from everyone who goes there.”
Mr Russell took his photo at Jan Juc, but similarly remarked on the Surf Coast’s beauty and how the area was a delight for photographers.
“The spectacular rock formations and richly coloured cliffs of the Surf Coast make for fabulous photo opportunities.
“I couldn’t wait to get down to the beach but paused momentarily at the top of the stairs to take the photo.”
Cr Hodge said the competition’s success provided a foundation for future years.
“We will continue the competition and make it bigger and better next summer.”
The winners all had their photos digitally printed on a 3mm solid board, valued at $50 each.
