THE third annual Jarrod Lyle Memorial once again raised plenty of money for kids with cancer at The Sands Torquay.
More than 160 golfers turned out to support the cause as $6300 was raised for Challenge.

Lyle, a former professional golfer, sadly passed away in 2018 after his battle with cancer, throughout his journey he did a huge amount of work as an ambassador for Challenge, which supports kids with cancer.

The Sands Torquay club pro Josh Lancaster said it was fantastic to see the cause so well supported, particularly given the connection the club has to Lyle, a former Sands member.

“It’s always a good turnout, it’s great to support it,” Lancaster said.

“It all went really well, the members enjoyed it, they always come down and enjoy it.

“It’s very important, you want to support these things.”

Lancaster said while he takes part in a number of Challenge days and charity events, this one holds extra meaning given his relationship with Lyle. Having spent plenty of time with him at the club and on the course, Lancaster and The Sands Torquay were honoured to hold the event.

“We do a lot of challenge days, but this one was extra special because of Jarrod’s involvement at the club.

“Being a day for him as well, all the money goes to Challenge and that’s what he was all about and what he supported.

“The day we have for him we all put in 100% effort and try to honour him in the best way possible.”

The day saw a number of different fundraising activities take place with a competition being run along with players having the chance to compete in a longest drive competition and nearest to the pin challenge. As well as raffle being run and Leuk the Duck, Challenge mascot, merchandise being available.
