PM is on target for Torquay Bowls Club funding

Prime Minister Scott Morrison sends down a bowl at Torquay Bowls Club, as Corangamite Liberal federal member Sarah Henderson looks on.

CORANGAMITE Liberal federal member Sarah Henderson has rolled out the biggest of big guns as she attempts to hold her seat, with Prime Minister Scott Morrison visiting her electorate only days after he announced the election would be held on May 18.

Mr Morrison and Ms Henderson visited the Torquay Bowls Club on Tuesday afternoon, where they announced the Liberals would put more than $406,000 towards synthetic turf on one of the club’s two bowling greens.

The funding will replace the existing grass turf on the upper green with an artificial pitch, allowing bowling all year round.

Mr Morrison also tried his hand at bowls on the lower green, getting some quick tips from Torquay Bowls Club members – “first lesson: take your shoes off!” one said – and trailing the jack with his first and only attempt.

Ms Henderson said she was delighted to make the announcement.

“It’s all about keeping the members here healthy, happy and connected with their community.”

Earlier on Tuesday, the Prime Minister and Ms Henderson took part in a seniors’ forum in Drysdale.

“What we’ve been about today is that we want all Australians to live life to the full, whatever age you are – from the youngest of Australians to the most senior of Australians.

“In fact, in last year’s Budget, we had a very significant package of measures designed to ensure that as Australians live through their retirement, they remain physically active.”
