December 29, 2019 BY

The 44th annual Port Fairy Folk Festival features a world class line-up of international and local artists.

For one very special long weekend in March, Port Fairy shines like no other seaside town in Australia.

Artists and music lovers alike make an annual pilgrimage to this stunning event, and it is time you joined them to discover why the Port Fairy Folk Festival was hailed as one of the “World’s Best Festivals” in 2019 by international journal Conde Nast Traveller.

The 44th annual Port Fairy Folk Festival features a world class line-up of international and local artists, representing folk, blues and roots music from around the world, as well as workshops, theatre, historic walks, comedy, spoken word and poetry, and a glorious variety of activities for all members of the family.

In 2020, the festival also highlights the music of First Nations people, contemporary and traditional, from Australia, Canada and New Zealand. A special event, First Nations – Songs & Stories hosted by Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse will explore, in conversation and in song, the similarities and differences of being a First Nation artist, the path to reconciliation and the role the arts and music can play in aspirations for the future.

What makes this event so special is not only artists of the highest calibre, but its location. From glorious churches to theatres, and the purpose built arena, all venues are hugged by the wonderful land and seascape that is Port Fairy.

In 2020 Port Fairy Folk Festival welcomes legendary Grammy Award winners from the USA, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Patty Griffin and Rhiannon Giddens, as well as iconic Australian artists Archie Roach, Dan Sultan, C.W. Stoneking and Things Of Stone & Wood to name a few. Hailing from Ireland is Eleanor McEvoy, Susan O’Neill – SON, and Ye Vagabonds, and there is a Canadian tour de force with The East Pointers, The Burning Hell, COIG, and many more.
