Port holiday park booked out over summer
THOUSANDS of holiday-makers will descent on Portarlington Holiday Park this summer, with the accommodation venue booked out for three weeks from Boxing Day.
Speaking at the Portarlington Business Development Association (PBDA) Christmas function recently, Bellarine Bayside Chief Executive Officer John Nankervis said the 900-site park was then pretty close to full capacity until February, when numbers started to drop off a little bit.
“Then until Easter we are about 50-70 percent full in Portarlington because people book seasonal tickets, so they are around for four to six months,” he said.
Mr Nankervis said thousands of tourists visited the holiday park each year, which was great for the community and great for the town.
“We like to emphasise that they all do their shopping in the town and they all buy their petrol at the service station, and so on, so it’s a good thing for the community,” he said.
Bellarine Bayside will again be putting on a spectacular fireworks display on New Year’s Eve, which will be bigger and better than before.
Mr Nankervis said the holiday park would also boast 20 security people this summer to ensure everyone stayed safe.
“It seems like a huge amount but that’s why it’s quiet and peaceful and everyone behaves themselves,” he said.
“Security will also be walking up and down the foreshore because the management of the foreshore is our responsibility, but the security guards will be making sure people are behaving themselves as well.”
