Port parkrun off and away

November 14, 2017 BY

PORTARLINGTON’S parkrun is off and running, with almost 170 people taking part in the inaugural event at the weekend.

The free, weekly, five-kilometre timed run began on the Bellarine on Saturday, with many participants sharing their positive comments on the event’s Facebook page.

Noelene Ryan said “Wow so many! and no wonder with such a great view. Well done on getting this up and ‘running’. Thank you”, while Nancy Peplow said “Thank you for a beautiful parkrun! Will be doing this when I’m down this way! Beautiful course! It was varied in terrain!”.

Event director Fiona Gilks De’Araugo had been organising “unofficial” runs along the Portarlington parkrun course every Saturday at 8am to gain interest in the lead up to the launch, with 35 taking part the previous weekend.

The Portarlington parkrun course starts along the foreshore path opposite the playground in the WG Little reserve, travelling east towards Indented Heads for 2.5 kilometres before returning along the same path.

Parkrun is free to participate and is a great community event.

To participate, go to parkrun.com.au/register.

Once registered, you will be given a barcode, which you are required to bring.
