Preps celebrate 100 days of school

SOME of the youngest pupils at schools across the Surf Coast region have reached the significant milestone of 100 days of Prep, and celebrated the occasion last week.
Preps from schools including Torquay College, Mirripoa Primary School in Mount Duneed and Geelong Lutheran College in Armstrong Creek marked the occasion with fancy dress in a variety of themes, certificates and activities.
In calculating the 100-day figure, the schools have counted remote learning days as school calendar days because Preps were still participating in school activities each day while at home.

At Torquay College, pupils had the choice of dressing up as a 100-year-old person, or wearing 100 things. The two options saw pupils coming to school with walking sticks, grey hair and strings of pearls, 100 sequins sewn onto T-shirts, 100 sticky notes and 100 speed limit signs.
Lessons also were focused on the 100 theme. In maths at Torquay College, the Preps were learning to count to 100, as well as some adding and subtraction. Prep pupil Zoe said her favourite thing she’s learnt at school this year was to count to 100.
Like all teachers, Torquay College Grade Prep co-ordinator Tim Rahilly has had some adjusting to do during the coronavirus pandemic. “It’s definitely been a challenge, but it has been amazing to see how the students and parents have adapted,” he said.
