July 31, 2019 BY

Darryl Diment will be the principal at Armstrong Creek West Primary School (interim name).

THE principal of Ocean Grove Primary School will head south to lead a school in Armstrong Creek when it opens early next year.

The state government announced Darryl Diment’s appointment as principal of Armstrong Creek West Primary School (interim name) last month.

Mr Diment was principal at Ocean Grove Primary School for the past 10 years, and was appointed following a thorough Department of Education process.

“This is the next step for Armstrong Creek West Primary and means families in South Barwon are a step closer to getting a great new school and a great education,” South Barwon MP Darren Cheeseman said.

“Every student deserves access to the best facilities and the best teachers close to home, and the new Armstrong Creek West Primary School will deliver exactly that.”

To be built on Unity and Foundation drives in Villawood’s Armstrong Mt Duneed development, the primary school will cater for 475 pupils.

A school advisory group shortlisted four possible names for the school – Unity Drive Primary School, Baanip Primary School, Aruma Primary School and Aviation Drive Primary School – with consultation closing on July 26. The new school name will be announced in term four of this year.

New schools will open next year in Ballarat, Casey, Greater Dandenong, Hume, Mitchell and Wyndham.

The new schools opening in 2020 are part of state Labor’s school building boom that will see 100 new government schools open by 2026.

Labor says it has invested $5.6 billion in improving, upgrading and building schools.
