Project to find the gaps in Geelong’s digital skills

April 8, 2021 BY

The G21 project aims to identify the digital skill deficit in the Geelong region.

G21 HAS started a project to develop programs that will build the skills and capacity of existing and future digital workers in the Greater Geelong region.

The leading advocacy group has begun the first of three separate think tanks in its Building Digital Capability Project.

The Regional Secondary Schools and Digital Learning Hub and Ecosystem, which will provide high-speed, high-capacity internet connections to learning institutions, is one of G21’s Priority Projects, and this latest project sits alongside it under the broader theme of improving digital access.

G21’s Education and Training Pillar member Maree Herath, director of Harvest Human Resources, is managing the project and has secured funding from the Victorian Department of Jobs Precincts and Regions to host the think tanks.

“With a greater voice and endorsement, we can identify the digital skill deficit in our region and determine what training may be required,” G21 chief executive officer Guilia Baggio said,

“By participating in the think tanks you will assist in identifying the digital skills required in our region’s organisations that will enhance productivity, increase access to digitally-capable entry-level employees and provide career progression opportunities.

“As the Building Digital Capability project aligns with G21’s project work in this area, we encourage your participation. We look forward, with your assistance, to progressing the digital agenda broadly within our region.”

The think tanks are being held at the Harvest Human Resources offices at 4/199 Moorabool Street, Geelong, and run for just over an hour each,

The first session was held on March 30, and the next think tanks will start on Tuesday, April 13 at noon and April 27 at 4pm.
