RESIDENTS supporting the Park Street Development Protest Group will continue to stay proactive in their fight against inappropriate planning permit applications on the Bellarine.

The group recently met to review the withdrawal of an application from the City of Greater Geelong for a permit to construct five three story dwellings at 8 Park Street Portarlington.

Secretary Bev Shepherd said it was concluded that the group should continue to remain pro-active due to the potential for further inappropriate permit applications in the area.

“Due to a growing concern by Portarlington residents, and the increasing references in the media calling for appropriate management of population growth on the Bellarine, the meeting carried a resolution calling for the Planning Authorities on the Bellarine Peninsula to declare a Moratorium on all planning permits,” Ms Shepherd said.

“This focuses on planning permits which are outside normal applications, until the 2018 elected State Government has enshrined in law the permanent planning protections promised by the major political parties during the election campaign.”
