Nearly 40 people attended a protest outside Corangamite federal member Sarah Henderson’s Waurn Ponds office – one of several held across Australia marking “five years too many” for the refugees and asylum seekers on Manus and Nauru. Groups in attendance included Surf Coast Rural Australian for Refugees (RAR), Bellarine for Refugees, Aireys Inlet RAR, Combined Refugee Action Group, and other advocates and supporters. The protests mark five years since then-Prime Minister Kevin Rudd announced that all asylum seekers who arrived in Australia by boat would not be resettled here.
