THE City of Greater Geelong is inviting residents to attend one of two community forums on Tuesday this week to learn more about the planning of roadworks in Armstrong Creek and the city’s role in managing road closures.
The city says the forum will provide insight into the collaborative planning involved in co-ordinating traffic impacts between the city, Major Road Projects Victoria, and the Department of Transport and Planning.
Attendees will gain a behind-the-scenes look at the work undertaken to minimise disruption to the local community during construction.
The forum will include a Q&A session, with community members encouraged to submit questions in advance during registration to be addressed during the session.
Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj acknowledged the roadworks had caused disruption but said there would be long-term benefits.
“We understand that roadworks can be frustrating, especially in fast-growing areas like Armstrong Creek.
“These roadworks deliver essential upgrades to ensure our infrastructure keeps pace with the needs of our growing community.”
Charlemont Ward councillor Emma Sinclair encouraged residents to attend the sessions to learn about the work being done to deliver the roads the community wants with the least impact possible.
“We want to update residents on the road closure process, why works are being staged, how we are managing all works in the area and answer questions,” Cr Sinclair said.
The timing of works in Armstrong Creek is co-ordinated with multiple stakeholders, including Victorian government agencies, utility providers, and emergency services, while also aligning with funding timelines.
Roads in the Greater Geelong region are managed by a combination of the Department of Transport and Planning and the City of Greater Geelong.
The sessions will be held at Biyal-a Armstrong Creek Library at 20 Main Street, Armstrong Creek on Tuesday, June 17 from 11am to 12 noon and 7pm to 8pm.
