The Quay to Christmas light prizes
IT’S THE time of year when houses at night are no longer hidden in darkness, rather alight with Christmas cheer, blow-up Santas, plastic candy canes and twinkling Christmas trees.
To celebrate, Christmastime in the Quay is being held again with beautifully decorated houses and streets, 180 holiday street lamp banners and a decorated community Christmas tree.
Committee member John De Witt said he’s looking forward to seeing everyone’s creations this year.
“It’s the time of year to give and it’s a lovely way to meet your neighbours.”
All Quay dwellers are invited to show their holiday spirit by decorating their homes and entering them in a competition as part of The Quay’s second annual not-for-profit charity fundraiser.
There will be eight awards in the competition this year – opposed to five award categories in 2016 – selected by Torquay Ward councillors and financial donors.
These judges will be taken around in “Santa’s Sleigh” on December 14 from 8.15-9.30pm starting at the shire offices carpark.
The competition is open to Quay residents only, event sponsors and volunteers are ineligible, and entry forms (which will be distributed in mailboxes) can be dropped in at the front portico at 16 Offshore Drive.
The winners will be announced at The Quay’s Christmas Fun Events and Awards Night on December 15, receiving $250 each for their nominated not-for-profit charity which they stated on their registration forms.
As well as the awards announcement, there will be plenty of fun activities for families to enjoy including driveway cinema movies, a jumping castle, photo booth, a special visit from Santa and his elves plus much more.
The Quay residents can visit the Quay Residents Assoc – Torquay Facebook page for entry forms or look out for the forms in their mailbox.
