For more than 17 years, Torquay Hire and Steel has been providing local tradies and customers with the tools needed for a variety of projects.

The team at Torquay Hire and Steel offers equipment hire for building trades, contractors, handymen, gardeners, landscapers and people undertaking home DIY projects.

Owner David Begley said since purchasing the business in 2001 it has been about being as productive as possible to ensure the job is done efficiently and professionally.

Having worked in maintenance at companies such as Ford and Alcoa and smaller engineering firms in Geelong, David said he wanted to run his own business.

“I enjoy the opportunity to interact with the local tradies and assisting customers with their DIY projects,” he said.

“We offer a range of steel supplies that can be cut to length to suit customer’s needs and specialise in being able to offer a one-on-one service with our customers and having the time to spend with them to discuss their various needs.”

The Torquay-based business employs three staff and runs Monday to Friday from 7.30am-5.30pm, Saturday 8am-5.30pm and is closed Sunday (arrangements can still be made for equipment hire).

For nine years, Torquay Hire and Steel operated out of Baines Crescent before relocating to a purpose-built workshop and office space at 14 Beacon Boulevard in 2010.

Servicing the Geelong and Surf Coast region from Armstrong Creek to Winchelsea they offer competitive rates with discounts for long-term hires.

Customers are now able to reach greater heights with the purchase of new access equipment in the form of a trailer boom lift and two scissor lifts.

David said the business is striving to continually meet the growing building demands in Torquay and surrounding areas and will continue to add new equipment to their range.
