Records tumble at weekend auctions in Torquay

SATURDAY auctions in Torquay achieved remarkable results, with two properties selling for a combined $11 million.

Award-winning McCartney Real Estate director Tim Carson described it as an incredible day.

“There will never be another day with two properties like this available at the same time,” Mr Carson said.

“The property, held by a local family since 1968, was bought by someone intending to make it their home,” Mr Carson said.

Approximately 80 people convened at 4 Pride Street, Torquay, for a historic auction.

“For the first time in 100 years, this property was offered to the public,” Mr Carson said.

Originating from the Taylor family, for whom Torquay’s Taylor Park is named, the property was snapped up for $3.41 million by a local buyer.

Mr Carson said that with three bidders competing, both the vendors and purchasers ended the day happy.

Reflecting on the entire week, Mr Carson highlighted several notable sales including number 1/41 Beach Road at $1.87M, 52 Fischer Street for $1.72M, 105 Fischer Street slightly under the asking range at $1.40M, and 6 Parkside Crescent within the target range at $1.1M.

“Despite perceptions of a slow market, continuous hard work for our vendors and maintaining a positive outlook reveal that buyers are indeed active,” he noted.

Additional sales for the week included 2 Edina Place at $936,000, 1/47 Darian Road reaching the high end of its $1,145,000 – $1,185,000 range, and 3/25 Zeally Bay Road at $1.3M, also at the top end of its range.

“It’s been a terrific week,” Mr Carson said, with no rest ahead as more “exceptional properties” are set to come onto the market.
