Regional rail investment delivering cheaper travel
LOCAL passengers have now taken up to four million cheaper and easier train trips since March thanks to the Regional Rail Investment from the Victorian government.
Those who once paid $27.60 for a return trip to Melbourne have taken full advantage of $10 capped ticket prices for the same service, and more since March 31, 2023.
The regional fare cap has seen regional travel boom in popularity, with the Geelong line showing a 22 per cent increase compared with the same period in 2022.
South Barwon MP Darren Cheeseman said the Victorian government’s investment into better regional rail infrastructure has been “essential in delivering more services and keeping costs low for locals”.
“Essential infrastructure upgrades like the Waurn Ponds and Marshall Station, the Barwon Heads Road and Torquay Road level crossing removals, the South Geelong to Waurn Ponds line duplication, and the Waurn Ponds Stabling Yard and Regional Fare Cap is a fantastic way for South Barwon locals to make gettin from A to B, that much easier.”
