Relay for Life participants rally against cancer
THE Surf Coast Relay for Life will start start at Polwarth Oval tomorrow (Friday, March 13), a date many have had marked on their calendars for some time.
This is certainly the case for the Hargreaves family, who will be participating in the Surf Coast Relay for Life for the ninth time.
For Di and Darren, along with their daughters Capri and Aria, the relay is on their minds from an early stage as they look to raise funds for the event.
Darren said they were motivated by both the event and the cause itself.
“Capri and Aria really enjoy taking part in it; I have been on the local committee for the past four years; and Di would not miss taking part in our fundraising activities or the overnight event each year.
“Knowing we are helping provide funds for cancer research, education and support to sufferers, make it all worthwhile.”
The Hargreaves are part of the Red Cup Event team, which has presently raised more than $4,000.
Darren said being part of the team was an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
“Although we are very serious about raising funds, Red Cup Events is a team which has great fun throughout the year, culminating in the overnight event at Polwarth Oval.”
All the money raised from the Surf Coast Relay for Life will go to Cancer Council Victoria to help with cancer research and prevention, as well as support for those effected by the disease.
The Surf Coast Relay for Life is a moving event. With live entertainment and music, it is a celebration of those who have survived cancer. It also includes a candle lighting ceremony for people to commemorate the loss of loved ones.
The relay begins at 6.45pm on Friday and runs through to 1pm on Saturday, March 14.
People can donate to the Surf Coast Relay for Life by heading to secure.fundraising.cancer.org.au and searching for “Surf Coast” in the Event Name category.
