Relay for Life cancelled due to coronavirus fears
CANCER Council Victoria (CCV) chief executive officer Todd Harper announced this morning that Relay for Life events scheduled in March and April are cancelled, with local organisers hoping to reschedule at a later date.
This includes the Surf Coast Relay for Life which was set to start tonight (Friday, March 13).
Surf Coast Relay for Life chair Bob Tyler said the event would still run when the threat of the virus has passed.
“It will run later in the year. Once this is all over we’ll come up with a date. But that will only be once this virus is all clear.”
Mr Harper said CCV was not prepared to risk participants’ health for the sake of fundraising efforts.
“Nothing is more important to us than the health and safety of our volunteers, staff and supporters.
“You are our most precious asset and we want to look after you.”
