Relay for Life seeks runners

November 21, 2018 BY

Surf Coast Relay for Life chair Bob Tyler is signing up runners and teams for the 2019 event.

PREPARATIONS for next year’s Surf Coast Relay for Life (R4L) are well under way, and new chair Bob Tyler is keen to see more teams sign up as soon as possible.

The 24-hour relay, which will be held on Polwarth Oval in Torquay North on March 15-16, will raise funds for cancer research, and Mr Tyler said he was particularly looking for corporate teams to take part.

“Cancer research is so essential,” Mr Tyler said.

“R4L is a fun way for raising funds for a notable cause, concluding with a 20-hour relay with supporting activities such as live music, including some excellent musicians and singers.

“During last year’s R4L, 20 teams involving a total of 396 Surf Coast residents and friends raised
in excess of $90,400.”

Eight relays have been run on the Surf Coast so far, and Mr Tyler said the community had achieved great success during that time.

“Not only have hundreds of Surf Coast residents and friends taken part in R4L, but over the eight years we have raised $518,400 to continue the fight against this horrible disease.

Mr Tyler is aiming for the number of teams at the 2019 RFL to exceed last year’s line-up.

“Any individual or organisation wishing to take part in this great event which devotes its efforts to fighting cancer through continuing cancer research, can phone me on 0417 142 156 for more information or to register a team.”
