WITH less than 100 days until the 2020 Surf Coast Relay for Life begins, locals are being encouraged to begin forming teams and raising money.

Supported by the Cancer Council Victoria, Relay for Life collects funds for cancer treatment and research.

Surf Coast Relay for Life chair Robert Tyler said the event helped create a great feeling of community.

“The reward for volunteer participants is a two-day event where we have fun together, including live entertainment and music.

“Celebrating cancer survivors and remembering the loss of loved ones at candle lighting ceremonies are a most important part at the weekend finale of our 2020 Surf Coast Relay for Life.”

Red Cup Events team captain Heather Evans said the event was a fun way to provide help for an important matter.

“Although we are very serious about raising funds, Red Cup Events is a team which has great fun throughout the year, culminating in the overnight event at Polwarth Oval.”

She also noted the variety of ways funds could be raised for the event.

“We raise funds with tin-rattling, sausage sizzles, music and trivia nights and other fun activities between now and next March and always welcome people joining our team.”

The Surf Coast Relay for Life will be held at Polwarth Oval in Torquay’s Banyul Warri Fields Precinct.

It will begin at 6.45pm on Friday, March 13 and go through to 1pm on Saturday, March 14.
