Reserve gets brightened up for summer
CAMPING at the Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve has been made cleaner, greener and safer just in time for a busy summer season.
More than 40 staff from the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority pitched in last week for a working bee to brighten up the area.
The working bee involved painting speed bumps and bollards and partnering with Southern Otway Landcare Network to plant indigenous plants.
The authority’s director of community, corporate affairs and visitor economy Andy Mathers said the Reserve will be open in time for September school holidays and the AFL Grand Final weekend.
“This is the latest in a series of improvements we’re delivering for camping, recreation, and sporting facilities in the Reserve.
“It’s all about increasing camping opportunities and improving access to our beautiful coastline.
“The latest works will make the Reserve larger and greener, while also improving views of the Barham River.”
The enhancement efforts follow major site clearing works in July to increase casual camping opportunities at the reserve.
150 powered and unpowered options are now available.
Camping bookings are open from early September.
